The Climbers Bar

The ODG Bar

The Bar

You'd be forgiven for calling this the "Hikers Bar". The sign above the door said this for so many years. But this has always been a climbers bar.

This part of the building was formerly a shippon, a cow shed. You can still see the bays to the right of the bar. The shippon was converted to the bar in 1949.

The fire place was add much later by Jane and Neil Walmsley.

The ODG has always provided a good selection of local beers, but whatever your choice you'll always be sure its a good pint.

From the kitchen

The ODG has always prided itself on its fresh, home cooked food. Our Head Chef Stephan along with Josh, Kit and Johnny create seasonal dishes fresh to order.  (try our very own sticky toffee pud or take a "dead fly pie" for the fell).

Stephan has brought a new twist to The ODG. His specials and snacks are proving to be a big winner with customers.

Black Jack Thornton at The ODG

Amongst many of the features of The ODG, one of the most recognisable hung on the wall opposite the bar. "Black Jack" Thornton was a technical college lecturer, accomplished climber and general party animal. He and his gang took over the barn at Wall End Farm for their get togethers. His picture depicts cherubs, beer, tents, Middle Fell, The ODG and a fair maiden awaiting his return. Grab yourself a pint and see what else you can find in this wonderful art work by Shirley Parfitt.

Do you know the story of the Cannon ball?

...and who could forget music night? We think it deserves it's own page...
