The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel is recognised as the Classic centre for climbing and walking in the Lake District. From the Hotel there are both low level walks and serious high level walks to Scafell, England's highest mountain. There are excellent walks also into the Borrowdale, Wasdale and Eskdale.

For all walking in this area, we recommend that you purchase the OS Outdoor Leisure Map 1:25,000 for the South West area and also the North West Sheet if you plan to walk in this direction. Maps can be purchased at the Hotel if required.
